Yes I got Botox

=

So here’s a start to my blog …again!

My topic for today as the header says is Botox. Some of you may know that I recently got botox on my forehead and shared that on my Instagram account (stillloveglam). That opened the door to so many questions that really led me to think that maybe sharing my experience and knowledge about this process would help answer some of your questions. Also to be honest some interesting questions such as ‘Did I get botox on my lips? ’ also made me want to write this blog ! lol

So here it goes…

Sourced from Pinterest
  • Why did I get Botox?
    • I am all of 37 yrs and as we grow older our skin looses elasticity which results in fine lines and wrinkles. Now, my 26 yr. old would have said no I would never get botox but that 26 yr. old didn’t know what 37 looks like ..lol.  My main reason to do this was my frown lines were very visible even when I didn’t frown. A small facial moment made it look deeper. I did all my research and I knew these lines just won’t disappear with any amount of skincare. Skincare can prevent future lines from appearing but I haven’t met a product that reverses the process. The only way to make that line disappear was through Botox. So I did it!

  • What is Botox?
    • I know you can google the medical term for this but in simple language it’s a drug that paralyzes the muscles temporarily. Yes its temporary, which means my forehead lines will become visible when the product wears off. There are many brands that make Botox , my doctor has used Dysport and Juvo on me.

  • How much is Botox for and how much do you need ?
    • Botox is sold by the Unit. Its somewhere between $10.99 to $15.99 per unit . Botox is needed as per your requirement. I had lines on my forehead which were a little deep, so the doctor prescribed 20 units. If your lines are not so prominent you may need less. The total cost for my treatment was $275.
  • Where do you get botox in the face?
    • Botox is given to relax the muscle so wrinkles or lines aren’t visible or formed. Such lines are mostly on the forehead or near the eyes (crow’s feet). Botox is not used to plump lips or cheeks! Fillers are used for that.
  • What are the side effects?
    • The immediate side effect after getting pinched with botox is small mosquito bite swellings on the injection site and slight bleeding. Both of them subside after 10 mins. Bleeding stops immediately. It’s just a prick. If you birthed a child or two this won’t hurt 🙂
  • How long until you see results?
    • For me it was after 2-3 days. You see that the lines are slowly becoming less prominent. However the full effect of it takes 2 weeks. I just completed 2 weeks.
  • What is the post care?
    • So this is important. Post botox you are advised to not put any pressure on that area for a few days as well as no heavy exercising for a few days as well. This may cause the botox to move from the spot it was put in. So stay away from anything that would cause strain to that area. Just for 2-4 days.
  • Is it safe?
    • From my experience and research I thought it was safe for me to do it. I did a lot of reading and talked to some friends who have already done this and discussed the pros and cons before I went ahead with my treatment.
  • How do I find the right place to get Botox ?
    • Look for a doctor that has a lot of experience. Start with a consult to figure out if he is the right doctor for you. You want someone that is conservative and understands that you are not here for a transformation but a small treatment to make you look youthful. You don’t want to look overdone, so finding someone who is conservative with their treatment is important.
    •  Choose a place that is clean and reputable. Ask your friends or even your general physician for a referral. I found my doctor through a referral as well.

  • How often does one need to do this?
    • Since Botox is temporary, touchups are needed every 4-6 months. I will try to prolong it to 6 months. Generally, the same dosage is given again. If you don’t go for the touch up, eventually it wears off and your forehead is back to it original state in 7 months.
  • What are the pros and cons of Botox?
    • The biggest pro is lines don’t appear and you face looks relaxed. I feel my forehead has this extra glow to it now!
    • The con for me is that it’s not permanent, and if I want to keep up with it I need to go in for a touch up every 6 months at least. And once you see how good your skin looks you want to go back. So, it’s not one fix and done.

I hope I was able to provide some honest education and my experience around this topic. Please leave a comment below if you have more questions. And please subscribe to my blog as I will be writing more ,I promise.
